It is known that our country has been taken some contingency plans; all this due to the health alert caused by the swine flu virus but it is also known that this virus is totally under control and it is well above the media says, and without disqualifying the press, in the venue (Cancun, Q. Roo, Mexico) has not been reported any case of swine flu.

However, all these safety measures are carried out with the purpose of giving certainty and confidence, mainly when this issue is about our health. For this reason, in a social responsible act and just to be safe, we have taken the decision of changing the dates of this great event.

Latin Hot Party 2009 will take place with all its strength, spectacularity and enthusiasm in the middle of the month of September 2009.

That is why all the agreements and contracts were reestablished supporting the new date, with the only objective of guaranteeing that the most exciting experience of your life can be safer than ever.

All of you who has already made a reservation or paid an LHP package for June will obtain higher benefits in the LHP package for September. However, it exist the disposition to refund your money if that is your decision.

De conformidad con datos de la Consultoría De la Riva Investigación Estratégica -que realizó en el 2005 el primer estudio de estilos de vida del consumidor gay llamado Pink Market- expresa que sólo en Estados Unidos la comunidad gay, lésbica y bisexual compuesta por quince millones de personas -de diverso origen étnico, solteros, organizados en familias y adultos mayores-, erogaron 485 mil millones en el 2004, en tanto que en el 2006 su gasto superó los 610 mil millones de dólares.

En Europa, las ganancias que los homosexuales aportan al ramo turístico se calculan en tres mil 300 millones de euros al año. Únicamente en España, la comunidad gay representa en conjunto un mercado de 31 mil 829 millones de euros.

De conformidad con datos de la Consultoría De la Riva, en México podría llegar a haber hasta once millones de homosexuales, se trata como lo dicen ellos “de un grupo social reducido, considerado por su importancia como “minoría significativa”.

A pesar de estas estadísticas, México se ha mantenido fuera de los grandes receptores de turismo gay internacional, salvo algunos gobiernos estatales y municipales, como es el caso del gobierno del Distrito Federal, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Ciudad del Carmen, y Cancún, que promueven el turismo gay.

Es el caso del Distrito Federal, la Secretaría de Turismo local mantiene acciones para promover el turismo lésbico-gay, planteándose metas anuales para la atención de este segmento de población de cuando menos 3.0 millones de personas. Para ello han instrumentado acuerdos y alianzas con diversas organizaciones internacionales como la Asociación Internacional de Viajes Lésbico-Gay (IGLTA, por sus siglas en inglés), lo que está creando una red de cadenas hoteleras, arrendadoras de autos, líneas aéreas, restaurantes, entre otros servicios, para atender de forma especial a quienes tienen una preferencia sexual diferente a la heterosexual.

Según expresiones manifestadas por las autoridades del Distrito Federal en materia turística, advierten que “el turismo lésbico-gay deja beneficios económicos importantes, con unos mil 166 dólares por visitantes de ese segmento frente a los 705 dólares por persona del turismo general.

El gobierno de Marcelo Ebrard pretende posicionar la capital del país, como una ciudad gay friendly en donde el movimiento gay-lésbico internacional tenga acceso a los lugares culturales, deportivos y de entretenimiento sin ser molestados.

Por su parte, en Cancún, se promueve el Festival Internacional Gay. Cada verano participan aproximadamente 200 asistentes a este festival, el cual genera una derrama económica superior a los 520 mil dólares durante los cinco días que permanecen en este destino.

Puerto Vallarta se está agregando a la oferta turística que promueve productos y servicios para el mercado de la comunidad homosexual en México; en tanto que a nivel internacional está reconocido como un destino gay.

Es conocido ya por los lugareños, que algunas zonas del puerto comenzaron a revivir económicamente gracias a la comunidad homosexual, como lo fue Playa los Muertos. Hoy la zona tiene vitalidad. A su alrededor hay negocios importantes para atender al turismo internacional gay y la derrama económica en aquel lugar permite la generación de empleo-ingreso.

Consideramos que poco a poco, las empresas y empresarios, así como las autoridades estatales y municipales deben voltear hacia este segmento de población no atendido, toda vez que en nuestro país la comunidad homosexual, que conforman el llamado pink market, es un mercado calculado en cuatro mil millones de pesos anuales.

Sun, Fun, and Blue Chairs? Mexico has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and thousands of gays wash ashore to enjoy their crystal blue waters and white sands. The top gay beach is Cancun’s Playa del Rey (also know as Playa Delfines) beach for boys and girls.

Cancun
The beach and related water sports activities are the prime activities here. Local gays used to recommend the Mirador, a beautiful rocky area with a little lighthouse behind the Camino Real Hotel in the elbow of the island Hotel Zone.

But the new gathering spot is Playa Delfines, a gorgeous stretch of white sand at the southern end of the Hotel Zone, next to the Ceasar Park Hotel and across from the Ruinas del Rey. People-watching is also a prime activity, especially in the downtown area. Shoppers will love the wonderful selection of air-conditioned malls and street bargain centers. And bullfights, for those who can stand them, happen every Wednesday at the fairly new Plaza de Toros. Cancun is an excellent starting off point for many day trips or short excursions in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Cancun’s Zona Hotelera is the strip of resorts and hotels created specifically for tourists. In this area, you will find American chain restaurants, shops and amazing beaches. El Centro is the downtown area, a bit less touristy and more local. Here there are great local restaurants and eateries, and a variety of nightclubs, both gay and straight.

Of course, while in Cancun you won’t want to miss a trip to the Mayan ruins at Ruinas del Rey and Yamil Lu’um, both in the Zona Hotelera. But whatever you do while in Cancun, you are sure to have an amazing tropical vacation.

Beaches

Cancun offers the beautiful strips of white sand beaches that most people think of when they imagine the Yucatan coast. Many of the beaches have rough waves and are not safe to swim in, but are great for sunbathing and other water sports.

Though the water is generally to treacherous to swim in, Playa Delfines (Boulevard Kukulcán km 20) is a popular place with gay tourists. The white sands are perfect for sunning, the water is many shades of blue and the view is incredible. This beach is also popular for surfing, and a great place for taking lessons. Like many beaches in Cancun, the scene at Playa Chac Mool (Blvd. Kukulcan) changes depending on the time of day. During the day, many local families flock here to swim in the relatively calm waves. But in the afternoon, the rocky areas becomes a bit cruisey. Parque de las Palapas in El Centro is another outdoor location known for its cruisey-ness. Playa Langosta (Boulevard Kukulcán Km 5) is calm beach that is popular with families and partiers alike. It is a relaxing beach for sunbathing and swimming in the gentle waters. There is a dock in the middle, but the swimming area is clearly designated.
Events

For three solid weeks at the end of January, the streets of Cancun are filled with parties, shows, dancing and exhibitions. It’s Carnival! And it is not to be missed. People gather from all over to take part in the 24-hour street party. Each May, ARCO IRIS (800-765-4370 or 619-297-0897, gaymexicoexperts@aol.com) hosts the International Gay Festival, a four day celebration of hedonism and homos, that includes tours, cruises, and tons of parties. ARCO IRIS also hosts the Mayan Riviera Gay Fall Festival in November, highlighted by the Fall Fiesta Grand Party complete with strippers and drag queens. These events are too hot to be missed!

Nightlife

Clubs come and go quickly in Cancun, but there are a couple long-lasting gay clubs and many of the straight clubs are gay-friendly. Nightlife in Cancun doesn’t really get started until 10pm or later, and lasts until 5 in the morning. Looking for addresses in Cancun can be tricky, but the cab drivers know most of clubs by name. Buses run frequently between El Centro and Zona Hotelera and El Centro is walkable.

Every night seems like a party at Cancun’s oldest gay bar, Picante (Plaza Gallerias, Av. Tulum 20), but for holidays Picante throws wild parties complete with costumes and elaborate performances that reflect the culture of Mexico. Picante has great drink specials, drag shows and strippers. Thursday is Tequila night with free shots. Nearby at Karamba (Av. Tulum 11), the largest disco in Cancun, the fun really gets going after midnight when the locals show up. Karamba offers great drink specials, drag shows, and karaoke. You’ll also find male strippers here on the weekends.

Dining

Cancun offers a lot of great dining options for visitors, from street food to cuisine. One of the most beautiful (and expensive) restaurants is La Joya (Blvd. Kukulcan Km 9.5, +52 998-881-3200), located in the Fiesta Americana Hotel. Here you will find perfectly prepared traditional Mexican recipes. The catch of the day wrapped in maguey leaves is always a treat. Folklorico dancers and mariachi bands heighten the experience. For something even more authentic, head over to La Parrilla (Av. Yaxchilan 51, +52 998-887-6141) which bills itself as the most traditional restaurant in Cancun. They serve reliable Mexican recipes in an authentic folk atmosphere. Live mariachi music and an excellent assortment of tequilas provide the perfect finishing touches to the experience. Reservations are recommended. A visit to Cancun is not complete without a visit to Perico’s (Av. Yaxchilan 61, +52 998-884-3152). The food is not the highlight of this popular tourist trap, but the non-stop party is. Costumed waiters serving flaming drinks to the loud marimbe and mariachi music, and the whole restaurant jumping up to conga line together and drink tequila shots is really the draw.

For foodies looking for something with a twist, Labna (Av. Margaritas 29, +52 998-892-3056) serves Mayan-inspired food that is anything but run of the mill. Their gourmet traditional cuisine features fantastic dishes such as pork loin in sour orange sauce and Longaniza de Valladolid, a traditional Mexican sausage. For dessert, try the guava mousse. The menu here is well priced, and the wait staff are friendly and hospitable. Another excellent food bet is El Cejas (Avenida Xel-Ha, +52 998-887-1080), an open-air seafood restaurant in El Centro. Located inside the Mercado Veintiocho, El Cejas serves up amazingly fresh seafood. The shrimp ceviche is delicious, and they have a great hangover remedy called vuelva a la vida (return to life) made of conch, oysters, shrimp, octopus, calamari, and fish in a spicy tomato sauce.

Maybe you’ll want something besides Mexican food while in Cancun. In that case, try La Pasteleteria-Crepería (Av. Coba 7, Sm 25, +52 998-884-3420). With a variety of soups, sandwiches, crepes and pizza, this is a delightful little spot for a mid-day meal. A delicious assortment of pastries are baked on-site. For a healthy, organic meal, check out the aptly-named 100% Natural (Av. Sunyaxchen 62, +52 998-887-1000). This popular chain of restaurants (there is also one in the Zona Hotelera) serves a wonderful array of light, healthy and vegetarian dishes. The menu is broad and diverse, and also offers egg, chicken and fish dishes. 100% Natural is also a great place for fresh fruit drinks.

It is in keeping with the state’s new slogan: “It’s All Here for Everyone!”

The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism announced the launch of its new site dedicated to attracting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) leisure travelers to the Commonwealth.  The site was launched to attract and welcome incoming visitation from the LGBT market segment and is a continued affirmation that Massachusetts is a welcoming travel destination to everyone.

“Massachusetts is open and welcoming to all visitors and the acceptance of same-sex marriage is ample proof,”  said Betsy Wall, executive director of The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.  “In 2004, Massachusetts was the first state to legalize same-sex marriage and is currently one of only two states to extend marriage privileges to same-sex couples.  Marriage information is available on the site, as well as extensive information on events and activities, destinations and travel information that may interest the LGBT traveler.”

According to Community Marketing, Inc. (a San Francisco LGBT market research firm), $70 billion was spent in the U.S. by LGBT travelers.

The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT) is the state agency dedicated to promoting Massachusetts as a leisure-travel destination in order to stimulate the Massachusetts economy by generating state and local tax revenues, creating jobs, and supporting the growth of travel-related businesses. MOTT serves as a leader in the tourism industry, bringing together the public and private sectors to promote Massachusetts as a leisure travel destination. Tourism is an integral part of the state’s economy, generating more than $887.2 million in state and local taxes and $14.2 billion in travel related expenditures. The industry supports 125,800 in-state jobs.

The Casitas Laquita and the neighboring Queen of Hearts are rarities in the world of gay travel: they are resorts that cater to lesbians. The hotels also illustrate the differences between gay men and lesbians and men and women in general.

“Women are just different,” summed up Joanna Funaro, who along with her partner, Denise Roberson, own Casitas Laquita, a 15-unit resort on 450 East Palm Canyon Drive.

“Women are just more reserved,” nodded Roberson in agreement.

“Women tend to be nesters, ” echoed Michelle Secor, who owns Queen of Hearts with her partner, Bernadette Montenegro.

Queen of Hearts is Palm Springs’ first lesbian-friendly hotel. It was established in 1969 by Eadie Adams and her partner, Pat McGrath, and was known as The Desert Knight for 30 years. The 9-unit property has been completely renovated and is impeccably maintained. Its sister property, the Desert Hearts Inn, is just across the street and has 3 units.

The women’s hotels all feature kitchens in the rooms. The owners say that at least 90 percent of the women regularly cook in the rooms. That’s in contrast to the men’s resorts, many of which have kitchens that are infrequently used.

Unlike most of the men’s resorts, Casitas Laquita is not clothing optional. Queen of Hearts allows women to sunbathe topless. There’s also another difference: the breakfast buffet. The women’s resorts serve breakfast individually to each guest’s room.

“If there was a buffet, they would just grab breakfast and go back to their room,” explained Roberson, whose partner, Funaro, has developed a loyal following at Casitas Laquita for her homemade coffee cakes.

Casitas Laquita provides a unique place for women to socialize and be entertained: an underground wine cellar. And yes, it’s literally underground, in a basement under the property. The cellar showcases occasional concerts and special events.

Why are there more than three dozen resorts in the Palm Springs area that cater to gay men and only two for women?

Roberson, who formerly worked for Westin Hotels, said her biggest competition is from the mainstream hotels, from Motel 6 to the Ritz Carlton. She noted that most women feel comfortable checking into the same hotel room together whereas gay men may be made to feel uncomfortable doing so in a hotel that is not at least gay-friendly.

Another difference, the owners of Casitas Laquita explained, is that that only about five percent of their guests are single women. That contrasts with many of the gay male resorts where unattached men are in the majority. Another difference is that unlike virtually all the gay male resorts, Casitas Laquita does not have a communal hot tub.

“The difference between men and women is that men like to go into the hot tub together,” explained Roberson.

Casitas Laquita does have an outdoor hot tub but it is part of a private patio in one of its suites. But for those women who want to try the communal hot tub thing, Queen of Hearts’ annex, Desert Hearts Inn, does provide one that’s available for guests staying at either property.

Casitas Laquita and Queen of Hearts are just a couple of blocks apart. Queen of Hearts is on 435 Avenida Olancha, a quiet culdesac that is home to several permanent lesbian residents. Secor quipped that she sometimes refers to it as “lesbian lane.”

Secor encapsulated the attitude of the women running both resorts: “I’m in love and I love what I do. If you do what you love, things will work out.”

33% of U.S. GLBT consumers use the Internet when they want to learn more about a product or service, versus 26% of non-gays.
